The Workshop on Microbial Ecology was developed in response to the increasing demand for training on how to effectively analyze and interpret data generated by modern studies in microbial ecology, primarily focused on data gathered using modern sequencing techniques, but also allowing time for other data types such as metabalomics. The Workshop target audience are people working with microbial ecological data types. No prior knowledge in bioinformatics are required and introductory material will be provided during the first week of the Workshop. However, some preparation prior to the course on fundamentals of working in a UNIX terminal and with R are highly-recommended.

A majority of the schedule is dedicated to hands-on learning activities designed by faculty and the workshop team. This interactive experience provides Workshop participants with the practical experience required to meet the challenges presented by modern genomic sciences.
